| Spain | 2006 | Bodegas Alto Almanzora Este | Blend of 45% Monastrell, 25% Tempranillo, and the balance Syrah, Garnacha, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is sourced from the little known DO of Almeria located in eastern Andalucia in the southeast of Spain. The wine was aged for six months in French and American oak. Deep purple in color, it offers up a kinky, full-blown nose of smoke, spice box, and wild blueberry. Ripe, succulent, and layered, this bargain-priced, hedonistic effort totally over-delivers. | ||

| California | 2006 | Bonny Doon Vin Gris De Cigare | This wine consists of: 27% syrah, 18% grenache blanc, 15% roussanne, 13% grenache, 12% cinsault, 12% mourvèdre, 3% viognier. Tasting this wine, we find brighter, filigreed fruit notes here--watermelon, cranberry and strawberry guava. There are also faint botanical, Provençal herb notes. | ||
